"Your Little Piece of the Range"
Activities and Things to do at Rocking 'R' Ranch
The Calgary Stampede
The world famous Calgary Stampede is a ten-day event that takes place in the heart of Calgary, Alberta and Stampede Park is only a 45 minute drive from the Rocking R Guest Ranch. The Stampede Parade features 160 entries from around the world and kicks off The Calgary Stampede in July of each year.
The Calgary Stampede Rodeo is the main attraction of the Stampede and runs every afternoon. Each evening nine heats of 4 chuck wagons and 16 outriders compete in a race known as “The Half-Mile of Hell.” This is followed by the Grandstand Show which features an amazing cast of musicians, dancers, singers and comedians. The evening concludes with a spectacular display of fireworks!
The Calgary Stampede Midway has rides for everyone from small children
to the most daring thrill seekers! In addition to all of this there are
displays of Arts and Crafts and numerous Agricultural Events and Shows.
The biggest event in the Strathmore Area is the annual Heritage
Days Stampede which takes place on the August long weekend each
year. See champion cowboys participate in the PRCA Rodeo and Dodge Pro
Tour Championship Chuck Wagon Races each day. For more heart stopping
action you can take in the Running of the Bulls, an event guaranteed to
keep you on the edge of your seat!
The Royal Tyrrell Museum
The Royal Tyrrell Museum, located in the heart of the
Alberta Badlands, opened in September 1985. In the first year the museum
had nearly 600,000 visitors and hundreds of thousands continue to visit
this world class museum every year. We’ll pack you a delicious picnic
lunch and send you off on the Dinosaur Trail to experience the world class
museum just a 45 minute drive from the Rocking R Guest Ranch. Stop and
view the scenic Horseshoe Canyon along the way or take a helicopter ride
over the canyon.
Enjoy world class fishing on the beautiful Bow River. Just 30 minutes
from the Ranch you will find some of the best river fishing in North America.
You can venture out on your own or we can arrange a guided tour for you.
Picnic lunches are also available.
The Canadian Badlands Passion Play takes place in July
each year and is set in the natural bowl amphitheatre of the Drumheller
Badlands. Each year thousands of visitors witness the portrayal of the
life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Authentic costumes and live
animals contribute to this true to life re-creation of the Holy Land.
The Rosebud Dinner Theatre is nestled in the picturesque
Hamlet of Rosebud, Alberta. The theatre runs 5 or 6 productions each year
at the local Opera House and dinner is included. Plan to go early as there
are a few interesting little shops in the Hamlet.
If you like to golf there are six golf courses with a 20 minute drive from the Rocking R Guest Ranch. The Oxbow Golf Course is an easy nine-hole course. The Strathmore and Speargrass courses are 18-hole courses and each feature a fully stocked pro shop, full length driving range, practice putting green and licensed restaurant.
