“Alberta ranch the ticket for unplugged getaway”

by Steve MacNaull

Toronto Sun journalist Steve MacNaull, accomplishes his mission of planning a distraction free getaway with his 14 year old horse-loving daughter at the Rocking R Guest Ranch in Strathmore, AB.

MacNaull, chose to stay at the Rocking R Guest Ranch in the “Badlands because it’s quintessential Canadian cowboy country with the kind of prairie-plus landscape ideal for horseback riding”. Read all about this whole fun filled father daughter weekend in the Calgary Sun Travel section here.

“For an entire three hours, my 14-year-old daughter doesn’t look at her smartphone. Grace doesn’t need to. She’s in the moment and loving it on the back of Doc, a paint-quarterhorse cross with one blue eye, who also works every year at the Calgary Stampede. It’s mission accomplished for me. I’m enjoying myself atop Dakota, a quarterhorse who also has Stampede lineage, and not checking my smartphone either. But, really, the goal for this weekend is spending time with my horse-loving daughter away from the distractions of home, school and the ever-present iPhone. And we do so in spectacular fashion. We found a rustic-luxe cabin to stay in at Rocking R Guest Ranch in Strathmore, Alta,, by searching “Badlands guest ranches” on Booking.com.”
