rocking ‘r’ bed & breakfast getaway packages

Heartland Equine Experience Package

Package Availability: Offered May – October

Experience Cowboy Culture Heartland Style at our beautiful ranch just a short drive from the Alberta Foothills where “Heartland” is filmed.  We’ll introduce you to our horses and you will have the opportunity to view some of the sites where the Heartland series is filmed.  Some of our guests have been on location when the camera is rolling and a few have been lucky enough to get autographs from the stars of the show!

Day 1 – Arrival
When you arrive at the ranch, take some time to settle into your cabin.  In the summer, you can wander over to meet our horses.  On the way, pick a few apples from one of our trees; the horses love apples!  After that, think about where you might like to go for dinner.  There are several casual restaurants in Strathmore or you can pick up a few things at one of the local grocery stores and test your culinary skills.  Your cabin kitchen is equipped with everything you need to prepare a meal.  You might want to grill some mouthwatering Alberta Beef on the BBQ!

Day 2 – Heartland Experience

Start your day with cowboy coffee and a delicious two-course breakfast served in your cozy cabin or on the deck overlooking the lake. The horses will be grazing in the pasture adjacent to your cabin and will probably wander over to see what you’re having for breakfast!

If you have your own vehicle, we will provide directions to High River where you can visit Maggie’s Diner, Tack and Feed; Heartland’s only publicly accessible film set. Check out High River’s “Famous People, Famous Places” map and take a self-guided tour around town to various other Heartland scene locations. Be sure to visit the Museum of the Highwood. The museum has an “On Location: Film in the Foothills” exhibit which features props and wardrobe from the Heartland Series. Check out Ty’s iconic leather jacket and Amy’s boots! Admission to the museum is free and the staff’ at the Museum are very helpful!

After you are done exploring and shopping in High River, grab a bite to eat at one of many excellent restaurants in town. We recommend the Whistle Stop Café; Heartland did some filming there in 2007. Evelyn’s Memory Lane Café is another great eatery. They were featured on “You Gotta Eat Here” in 2012. Or stop by the Southfork restaurant; they provide all the food for the scenes filmed at Maggie’s Diner.

Upon your return to the ranch, slip into the hot tub to watch the sun setting over the lake. When you are ready to turn in for the night, head back to your cozy cabin. Your beds will be turned down and there will be chocolate cowboy hats and boots on your pillows.

Day 3 – Equestrian Experience
Sleep late and wake-up to fresh coffee and another hearty breakfast. After breakfast prepare to “Cowboy Up” as we will be introducing you to your horse! Check out the Equine Experience Menu and select the experiences that appeal to you. Your safety is a top priority at the Rocking R Guest Ranch. We want all of our guests to have a positive, engaging Equine Experience, therefore; participation in any of our equine programs will be at the discretion of our accredited equine instructors. All programs can be modified to suit individual ability.
