The Heartland Ranch Experience at Rocking R Guest Ranch

Your Gateway to Alberta’s Best Dude Ranch

If you’re a fan of the hit CBC show Heartland, you’re probably familiar with the stunning landscapes and breathtaking scenery of Alberta. The Heartland Ranch, where the show is filmed, is a must-visit destination for any fan of the show or lover of the great outdoors. And there’s no better way to experience the beauty and adventure of Alberta’s heartland than by booking a stay at Rocking R Guest Ranch.

Heartland is filmed on a real ranch in Millarville, Alberta, Canada, where Roy Foster and his family moved to in 1928, and they raised cattle. Roy’s brother, Les built the famous barn seen on the show. Additionally, the show films ranch scenes at a dude ranch, which is not far from the real Heartland Ranch, and a studio in Calgary. All indoor scenes on Heartland Ranch and Scott’s clinic are filmed in a studio in Calgary.

Located in the heart of Alberta, the Rocking R Guest Ranch is the perfect destination for anyone looking to experience the authentic Western lifestyle that the Heartland Ranch is known for. Our convenient location near the Heartland Ranch Alberta means you’ll be able to experience the magic of the show for yourself, while also enjoying all the beauty and adventure that the Alberta countryside offers.

Heartland Experience Package

Unfortunately, the real Heartland Ranch is privately owned, and the owner doesn’t allow visits apart from the cast and crew during filming. However, fans are allowed to visit the outside of Maggie’s diner in High River and peer in to see the set. Fans may also visit the Museum of the Highwood, which includes costumes and props from the show. You may visit George Lane Memorial Park, where you will find the famous red gazebo that hosted Amy and Georgie’s high school graduation. High River is a great place to visit if you are a fan of the show, where you can also stroll through the town to visit shops that sell Heartland mementos.

With our Heartland Experience package, you can get a taste of life on the ranch and immerse yourself in the stunning landscapes you’ve seen on the show.

Our package includes a variety of activities that will make you feel like you’re living out your very own episode of Heartland. You’ll have the chance to go horseback riding through the rolling hills and lush pastures, just like the characters on the show. Our experienced wranglers will guide you on a tour of our ranch, showing you the best sights and sharing their knowledge of the local wildlife.

If you’re feeling adventurous, you can try your hand at fly-fishing in the nearby Bow River. Or you can take a guided hike in the beautiful Kananaskis Country. You can also take part in team cattle penning or take a wagon ride through the ranch.

Heartland Locations Tour

But the Heartland Experience isn’t just about activities—it’s also about immersing yourself in the culture and history of the area. Our package includes a self-guided visit to some of the filming locations in the Heartland show, where you can see the iconic buildings, and many recognizable locations from the show and even catch a glimpse of the cast and crew as they film on location.

Besides High River, there are other filming locations in Millarville fans might want to visit. For instance, there is the cute little wooden chapel where Lou’s wedding ceremony took place. To find it, look for signs at the Millarville Anglican Church. The Millarville Farmers’ Market and Race Track are also open to visitors all year round. This location served as the setting for all rodeo and horse racing-related scenes. The Farmer’s Market is the best in the foothills and opens every Saturday from June to October.

Maggie’s Diner, Tack and Feed is filmed on a real set and is the only permanently accessible set that fans can visit. Although Maggie’s is not a real working diner, fans are allowed to peer through the windows and see the set when the show isn’t filming there. You can also visit a real-life version of Maggie’s in High River called Evelyn’s Memory Lane. This retro diner is located on 4th Avenue, and it’s one of the best places for food in the area.

Some of the must-visit locations from Heartland include:

  • Hudson, Alberta: The small town where the fictional Heartland is set is actually High River. You can visit the Hudson Grain Elevator and the Hudson General Store.
  • Ty’s Truck Stop: This is where Ty worked and is a fan-favorite location.
  • Heartland Ranch: You can see the iconic houses, barns, and pastures from the show. You can also learn more about the history of the ranch and how it was transformed into the Heartland Ranch.
  • Maggie’s Diner: A fan-favorite location where the characters often go to eat.

Of course, no Heartland Experience would be complete without a stay in a cozy cabin at Rocking R Guest Ranch. Our accommodations are comfortable and welcoming, with all the amenities you need to feel right at home. You’ll love waking up to the sound of birds chirping and the smell of fresh coffee brewing, and ending your day under the stars with a crackling fire in our fire pit or relaxing in the outdoor hot tub.
